Staff Profile

I am a freelance journalist who has written for METRO, Mail Online, the Daily Record, The Sun's Fabulous Daily, Pick Me Up, Woman's Weekly, ChronicleLive, the Journal, Big Issue in the North and more. I have spoken on BBC Radio Five Live, BBC Scotland, BBC Radio Newcastle and other radio stations on a range of topics. 

Previously I was Assistant News Editor at the Oxford Mail and Oxford Times, specifically looking after our seven weekly sister papers. My time as a reporter was spent at the Evening Express in Aberdeen, specialising in human interest and community reporting. 

I am a co-organiser of 'We Are Our Media', a North East community media collective. Here I took a lead on editorial for 'The Eclipse', an alternative tabloid for the North, 20,000 copies of which were delivered for free around the region. We have run 'Do It Ourselves Journalism' courses in partnership with various local organisations, delivering citizen journalism skills as a form of creative practice. 

I have taken part in various arts projects over the years, including speaking at Chilli Studios' Heads and Tales Heritage Project conference, and working with gobscure and Greyscale during the development of joey. 

Back in 2016 I spent some time working for a large NHS mental heath trust as a communications advisor. 

I am especially interested in local and regional media, community development, digital story-telling and journalistic culture and ethics.

I have also contributed to training and research about missing people, including speaking at the College of Policing and the Third International Conference on Missing Children and Adults at the University of Abertay.

I contributed to the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Runaway and Missing Children and Adults'  ‘Inquiry into safeguarding missing adults who have mental health issues’ and have helped with learning materials for the Missing Persons Research Centre at the University of Portsmouth.

I have a BA (Hons) in French and German from King's College London and completed my NCTJ in Multimedia Journalism with the Press Association. 

When I'm not doing journalism or teaching, I am a trustee of Tyneside mental health charity, ReCoCo, and run a vintage clothing business at Flea Circus, Newcastle's vintage department store.
